Apple Inc. has recently discontinued its two dedicated music players – iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano because their two latest versions can not run iOS apps that runs on the iPhone. This move is taken by the company as it is reflecting the devices popularity in the period when numerous people prefer to stream or store their favorite music files on smartphones.
From the Apple Store, both models are removed on Thursday. Plus, they are removed from Apple’s online shop and official website as well. It is indicating that the company may discontinue these products officially. Besides, the company’s iPod product will remain alive. Plus, it will continue the sale of internet-connected iPod Touch.
An Apple spokesperson said that we were going to simplify our iPod lineup with iPod Touch two models having the higher capacity at the great prices. Also, we were calling off the iPod nano and iPod shuffle. The company in Cupertino, California has stopped upgrading these devices many years ago.
These both devices were introduced by the company in the year 2005 four years after the launch of original one. In 2008, their popularity was at peak. In that year, around 54.8m devices were sold and they have generated around $9.2 billion revenue. But thereafter, the sale of these devices was dropped in 2014 to 14.3m.
When Nano was launched in the market, it has steal the show from the Motorola ROKR. On the other hand, if we talk about the original device, it was introduced by the company with 1GB or 512MB of data. It looks like a USB stick as compared to later models came in a square. Plus, this device can store around 240 songs. On Sep 2010, Apple has released the last fourth generation model.
The users can not the iconic shuffle for selecting the songs. Through playlists, they can scroll on the random basis what they’ve added. The success of this device played a huge part to the comeback of Steve Jobs – Apple Chief executive.
Earlier, the company has also said that the Apple iPhone comes with an enhanced music app which was known in earlier days as the iPod phone. It can lead to decline the sale of standalone music players.
In actual, when iPhone introduced first, its music app was known as iPod. But its original hardware holds a special place in the company’s history. It was the first device by Apple that had more consumer electronics as compared to the computers.
However, the name of iPod will not phase out completely. The name of two new audio products will be ‘HomePod’ and ‘AirPods’ and in the recent time, the iPod Touch is the bestselling product. The reason of the company to kill off this device is that they don’t include Bluetooth.
It means that it does not work with the latest wireless headphones as the AirPods. Also, it doesn’t support Apple Music, online streamline service for video and audio. However, it is an end of this age as the company will not sell out any traditional music players.
In 2007, the company has unveiled an iOS-based device – iPod Touch which remains in its current line up. In actual, the prices of entry-level devices are slashed on Thursday. If you compare these devices with iPod Touch or iPhone, you will find that they have a little functionality as compared to others.
Apple has revised Shuffle in 2010, whilst the Nano in 2012 in a great way. Nevertheless, you can still purchase them from other sources till the stock lasts.
